Summer Hair

By Tenisha Mercer
www.HairNista.Blogspot.com

Today officially marks the official kick-off for summer.

What are your summer natural hair plans?

Will you be rocking braids, wash and gos, curly sets, blown straight, wigging it up or what? I'm going to do a mix of all of them, with the exception of braids.

Summer natural hair planning

Just like you make summer vacay plans in advance (or at least that's the plan) you also have to do a little planning for your hair, depending upon your activities. Will you be swimming, spending lots of time outdoors at festivals, super active, traveling? All may require different ways of wearing your natural hair.

Take your hair and your summer plans into account and go from there!

Stop Wearing Hair Bonnets in Public

By Tenisha Mercer
www.HairNista.Blogspot.com

I have noticed a disturbing new hair trend, spotted in ATL, FLA, the D and nationwide: Hair bonnets worn in public. This trend is totally perplexing. In Florida, I saw women with fashionably coordinated outfits, nicely pressed ... with bonnets on their heads at restaurants?

Ladies, I get bad hair days; we all have them. This is what chic turbans, fashionable scarves or even baseball caps are for. I don't care what hairstyle is under there. Throw on a wig, do something.

That satin bonnet, tho? That thang needs to come off your head as soon as your feet hit the flo'. It is ONLY to be worn in the confines of your HOME only.

Please, and thank you. #StopWearingBonnetsInPublic

This has been your public service announcement.

Love Nicki Minaj's simple, understated look. Elegant.

Kelly's gown was smokin' hot. Plenty of old-school glam with today's sex appeal.

Celebs with natural hair: Love this haircut!

Kim Fields is sporting a new haircut on her birthday.

Check out this pic of the "Facts of Life" mom, who shed her locs.

Nothing better than a new do!

Do you remember these?

Oh, I remember these. These would hurt like a mug if you slept the wrong way or got popped with one.

Pantone's Color of the Year

By Tenisha Mercer
www.HairNista.Blogspot.com

I am LOVING the 2014 Color of the Year by Pantone. Radiant Orchid is one of my favorite colors -- anything with some pink in it. Get ready to see plenty of items incorporating this color, from home furnishings and accessories to clothing, makeup and jewelry, of course!

Orchid can be paired with a number of colors -- from basic black and khaki to summer whites, navy, blue and teal. It is truly a good basic color with plenty of pizazz that can be toned up or down.

Last year's color was emerald and 2012's color was tangerine tango.

Here are a few ways to incorporate radiant orchid into your wardrobe this summer and fall:

Love this ENTIRE look!

I'd rock this!

A great casual look.

I'd wear all of these.

This trench is BAD!

The Met Ball -- also known as the Oscars of the fashion world -- at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC on Monday night didn't disappoint, with stars showing up in a variety of fashions and bringing plenty of old school glam. A new trend on the red carpet this year: pants.

Supermodel Naomi Campbell looks great in this waist-bearing gown, accentuated by furry sleeves.

Zoe Kravitz is all grown up. Love this gown on her. Where are her curls?

Singer Janelle Monae wears a cape and.pants.

Old school glam worn by Arizona Muse.

Solange wears a beautiful peach gown and straight hair. Miss her curls, tho!

Actress Lupita N'yongo in roaring 20's inspired fashions.

Hairstyles to wear this summer

By Tenisha Mercer
www.HairNista.Blogspot.com

It's officially summer: Temps are finally in the 70s and 80s after a looooong winter, so now what summer natural hair styles are we going to rock?

Here are a few cutes ones:

You can't get any simpler than cornrows, to the back, from Traci Ellis Ross.
This is a good style to keep your hair off your neck.

I LOVE this style. f I were to get my hair cut, this would be my style.

This style is so cute, I'd rock it. And usually I shy away from these styles. Perfect vacay hairstyle.

Report: Carol's Daughter Isn't Filing for Bankruptcy

By Tenisha Mercer
www.HairNista.Blogspot.com

News FLEW late last week that natural hair care company Carol's Daughter had filed for bankruptcy.

Folks all over the Internets, on blogs and on Facebook, talking about why and how Carol's Daughter Founder Lisa Price messed up. They'd all but nailed the coffin shut, lamenting and pontificating on blogs written THREE years ago about how Price rattled her core fan base (essentially accusing her of selling out to focus on a multi-cultural audience) from the now defunct 2012 ad campaign featuring Selita Eubanks, Solange and Cassie.

Yes, you read that right, a 2011 blog! Folks blamed it on Carol's Daughter exec  Steve Stout, how he doesn't like Black folks (what did ANY of that have to do with this)?

Careful. Only thing is, most of what was written about Carol's Daughter last week wasn't true, according to Price. I've been on vacay for the past week and in chill mode (I kno), so I didn't write anything about it.

But I'm so glad that I waited.

Seems like most of ya'll may have been dead wrong (hey, I've rushed to judgement on stuff before, too, and even I had a convo with one of my good friends about this topic).

Carole's Daughter isn't filing for bankruptcy and, in fact, things are going quite well for the company, according to Price, who said reports about the company's bankruptcy filing were "misleading." I know I saw her new line in Target yesterday, but this is what Price said on her company's Facebook page in an open letter today:
