What are you wearing for spring?

At work, making it WERK! I swear their bathroom has the BEST lighting in that dark building!

I've been wearing bursts of color for months -- bright scarves and dresses -- but today is finally the first day of spring.

Add to it that most of the country is basking in super warm temps right now and I pulled out my sleeveless tangerine sheath dress today  that I got from Tarjay last season for under $20!

Speaking of tangerine, it's on trend for spring. Tangerine is one of the most popular colors this season, according to the color predictor folks at Panteone. Overall, you'll plenty of bright colors this spring.  And, in a nod that's totally retro and reminiscent of the 80s, neons are back. I can't believe it, but I saw aisles full of neon yellow, orange and blue scarves, sneakers and even sandals at Target the other day.

Not sure how I feel about this trend. Been there, done that. Adding a bit of neon flare to your wardrobe isn't a bad thing ... if done the right way. Do it wrong and you'll be looking like a HAM!

What's in for Fall? Fashion Week 2012 Debuts Thursday in NYC

Spring 2012 fashions from designer Tracy Reese

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2012 kicks off in NYC tomorrow and I can't wait!

NYC Fashion week is the barometer for designers showcasing their fall collections. A virutal whos-who in fashion will display their goodies on the runway, with representation from around the globe. One day, HairNistas! One day! I'll be covering NYC Fashion week live, instead of here in ATL on a February morning.

I can't wait to see the fashions that my fave designers, like Detroiter Tracy Reese and Made in Africa: Arise Magazine will debut on the runway. NYC Fashion Week is THE show to attend, with offerings from the hottest names in fashion, not to mention the gaggle of celebs at the front rows of the runway.

Here are a few pre-show highlights:


Is Navy the new black? Navy is a hot, hot color, and designers will be using lots of it on the runway. In addition to navy, expect luxe fabrics, waste defining jackets and maybe some 1920s styles, inspired by films like The Artist.. That's a big change, with 60s, 70s and even 80s fashions ruling in recent years. Really, you never know what inspires fashions at times, but I do love the flapper styles of the 20s. Other popular colors include jewel tones, deep greens, and fabrics like brocades and jacquards.

Dresses are expected to play a prominent part on the runway. I love a good, well-made dress. They are so versatile and classic. I've cheered on this trend in recent years. Love it, because dresses are a cinch to take from day to night, with the right accessories.

Sculpted jackets and hemlines for fall. Menswear is hot again, with designers showing off menswear inspired tailored jackets, peplum dresses and other waist-cinching styles. Time to get that waist fit and trim! I'm a big fan of jackets, especially peplums. I have a short waist, and I need all the help I can get when it comes to definition. We've seen the big, boxy trend in jackets for a few seasons now, so it will be a nice return to the fitted jackets that I love so much.

The return of economical purchases. This economy ain't no joke! Sure, Nene might have gotten a few pairs of $2,000 a pop Loubies as gifts on a recent episode of Real Housewives of Atlanta, but  that's reality TV. More women are thinking practical when it comes to fashion. They're less likely to indulge in extravagant purchases that they'll only wear once or twice, but on things that can be repurposed or are building blocks in their wardrobe. The mantra: Wear it many times, different ways, for more wear per dollar spent. That's smart!

Target Scores Another Hit with Jason Wu

Trendy chic retailer Target has scored yet another fashion coup: The recently launched Jason Wu For Target collection has created a shopping frenzy, with fashionistas clamoring online and in stores to get the chains' hottest retail collabo.

They were largely unsuccessful: Much of the Jason Wu collection sold out within the first hour. Angry shoppers deluged Target's Facebook and Twitter pages, frustrated that they couldn't get their hands on Wu's limited edition collection, which ranges from $20 to $60 for women's clothing and accessories.

In Miami, two customers cleaned out a store's collection, overfilling two shopping carts with Wu merchandise. Allegedly, they tried to sell the products for higher prices outside the store, as seen in this YouTube vid:

This isn't the first time Target has had such a high demand for its limited edition collections. In October, the launch of the Mossimo for Target Collection sold out in minutes and crashed Target.com. Target learned from its Missoni missteps and limited purchases to two of the same Jason Wu items on its website. It also did not make Jason Wu available at all stores.

Viola Davis Looks Magnificent in Marchesa

Actress Viola Davis wowed the red carpet at the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards in L.A. over the weekend.

She looks DIVINE in this Marchesa gown. The white and gold accents beautifully accent her complexion. I love everything about this look! By the way, she snagged the SAG Best Actress award for her role in The Help. The Help co-star Octavia Spencer won Best Supporting Acress.

Designer Tracy Reese Expands Her Labels

Good news for fashion designer Tracy Reese!

Just shy of a month before Fashion Week, WWD reports that Reese will expand her clothing labels, Tracy Reese and Plenty and Frock! Those brands will be rebranded under the name T.R. Designs, with CEO Karen Castellano at the helm. Reese's website will also be revamped to become more interactive.

Reese is a Detroit homegirl, so you just know I had to report this.

Good luck, Tracy! 313 stand up.

Fashions for the New Year

There comes a time when we have to leave behind fashions and embrace new styles of the new year.

What fashions -- either styles or even designers -- will you leave behind?

My style is quirky; I like things that are a bit edgy, funky, yet feminine. Often, I don't know I like something until I see it, and I can't describe what I'll like beforehand. When I see it, I just know.
