By Tenisha Mercer

Add another award to Lupita Nyong'o's long list of honors: She's been named the World's Most Beautiful Woman by PEOPLE Magazine.

Quite an honor for the 12 Years A Slave actress. Nyong'o, 31, grew up thinking that "light skin and flowing, straight hair" made women desirable, but it was her mother who "always said I was beautiful. And I finally believed her at some point."

This is clearly Lupita's year -- and it's so well deserved.

The Oscar winner is now the new face for LancĂ´me Paris and is honored because "all the girls who would see me … and feel a little more seen."

Amen.

WTH is that on Jermaine Jackson's Head? WTF Hairstyle of the Day

By Tenisha Mercer
www.HairNista.Blogspot.com

Somebody come get their uncle! They let Jermaine Jackson out the house with this hair?

The Jermaine Jackson hair do
I am trying real hard to figure out what's going on here with his hair.

The top of it looks like hair on an old teddy hair or pump waves without the pump. The sides are a mishmash between a pound of brown protein jail slapped on his hail and semi cornrow thingamjiggies. Though I can't be sure? The whole thing looks as if it's been painted on his scalp.

The whole thing looks like some burnt black plastic shellacked to his head.

And to think that folks clowned ESPN's Pam Oliver for her hair. I'mma need to see this on Black Twitter, for real.  No way can Jermaine go on Wife Swap looking like this!

Jesus be a fence!

Natural Hair Bloggers Karyn Washington and Domineque Banks RIP

By Tenisha Mercer
www.HairNista.Blogspot.com

The natural hair community is mourning the loss of a hair soldier -- Karyn Washington, 22, the founder of forbrowngirls.com and the Dark Skin, Red Lips project that encouraged dark-skinned women to rock red lipstick, died last week of an apparent suicide.

Washington's death follows the death of another popular natural hair blogger last week -- Domineque Banks, 27, also known as longhairdontcare2011, of lupus.

Karyn Washington of forbrowngirls.com and Dark Skin, Red Lip project

Washington reportedly had suffered from mental illness and depression after the death of her mother. Washington was so encouraging and uplifting to women of color, but ultimately she may have needed someone to encourage, listen and advise her to get medical help.

I don't know what rock I was under, but I had never heard of Washington. But hearing of the things she did accomplish in her short life made me felt like I knew her -- her selfless acts of uplifting Black women, especially dark-skinned women, with a tube of lipstick.

Let's honor Washington's memory by talking about mental illness; it's not an ugly, dirty secret. And  please, rock a red lip in her honor!

The MTV Movie Awards in LA on Sunday had some fashion hits ...and misses.

Academy Award wining actress Lupita Nyong'o showed up in a beautiful tribal inspired outfit (12 Years A Slave won Movie of the Year). Rihanna on the other hand, showed up looking like she was ready for a sexy evening in boudoir fashions. Appropriate for the bedroom, but on the red carpet?

Two very different looks. Which one do you like more?
Here's an upclose look at what Lupita wore. I love her hair -- is that a kiny hair piece? And the shoes be killin' `em.

And Nicki Minaj wore a simple, understated black dress with gold accessories, as well as much simpler sideswept hair with ombre highlights. I really like the look on Nicki.

Man heels?

By Tenisha Mercer

First man weaves and now man heels? More men are wearing women's heels -- and they're killing 'em, as reported in this story in the Daily UK Mail and Guide, via the New York Times.

Man heels
It's not the first time men have worn heels. The trend dates back to European royalty in the 15th century. And us old school folks know that androgny ruled the day in the 70s/80s, when artists like Prince were notorious for sporting 4-5-inch heels. Even men wore platform heels.

These aren't cross dressing men, either. But men who find the perfect finish for their suspenders, dress shirts and men's dress pants to be a pair of heels. Do you, but something about a man wearing heels better than mine is irritating!

The taller, the better -- 15-inches or more (cost: $3,000+). And there's a healthy used market for Louboutins size 10 or larger. I know their feet gotta hurt!

This is what Gregory Alexander, 26, said about wearing high-end designer heels to clubs.

'I love the height... It helps when you’re in a club. I’ve bought Louis Vuitton. I’ve bought Gucci,' he told the Times. 'But a lot of designers don’t go high enough for me. I found a company in Arizona that will do 15-inch heels for $3,000.'

Time to step our game up, ladies. We got some competition!

What do you think of a man wearing heels?
