Get ready to say Happy 50th Birthday to ...(round of applause, please) ...First Lady Michelle Obama!

FLOTUS hit her milestone 50th birthday and, from the looks of things, she's celebrating in style.

Michelle Obama Wears Marchesa

By Tenisha Mercer
HairNista.Blogspot.com

FLOTUS turned it up wearing a beautiful off the shoulder Marchesa gown and a headful of bouncy curls at the 36th Annual Kennedy Center Awards. A very elegant yet flamboyant look for Michelle Obama.

Her Grecian chiffon gown is an on-trend color that's beautiful. And she's no longer wearing the bangs that she debuted about a year ago.

Sasha Obama and Those Shoes

By Tenisha Mercer

Move over, Malia Obama.

Your lil' sis, Sasha, is coming for you on the style front.

Almost taller than Malia, the 'she has grown up before our eyes' Sasha was spotted on the White House lawn with these shoes. And they are banging! You'll be pleased to know they're from Asos and cost $72.60.

Sasha isn't a cute little girl anymore. At 12, she's putting her fashion foot forward -- literally. The cut out Oxfords are an age appropriate look for the pre-teen. We love the stacked heel, leather loafer look, because they're a style that many age groups can wear.  Metallic? Not so much. Black, please and thank you!

You just know that the Obama daughters are going to be fashionistas -- just like their Mom!

Kanye West and his case of foot in the mouth

It's official: Kanye West has lost his DAYUM mind!

During an interview with Ryan Seacrest, Kanye had the nerve to use FLOTUS and Kim Kardashian in the same sentence.

“No one is looking at what [the president] is wearing. Michelle Obama cannot Instagram a [sexy swimsuit] pic like what my girl Instagrammed the other day,” West said about First Lady Michelle Obama.

Michelle Obama Bangs: Why She Did It

First Lady Michelle Obama's bangs are hot, and now we know why she made such a bold
move -- a mid-life crisis? Say what, FLOTUS!

"This is my mid-life crisis, the bangs. I couldn't get a sports car. They won't let me bungee jump. So instead, I cut my bangs," Mrs. Obama, 49, said in an interview with Rachael Ray on Wednesday, about her fringe cut bangs and new hairstyle.

Who can't relate?

Daddy, Daughter Hair Moments

President Obama and a young Malia Obama with her hair in a puff. How cute!
Seems that our favorite president, President Obama, himself, has hair styling skills -- or maybe not!

During a dinner with six guests at a private dinner with the President and FLOTUS as part of the President's dinner contest, Obama told a story of when he styled Malia's hair. This is what he said, according to BGLHOnline.com :

"My favorite story out of this is Malia, when she was 4, she had a little dance thing. Well, Michelle was gone that weekend so I’m taking her to ballet. And I get her in her little leotard and her little stuff. I did her hair, put it in a little bun.
We get to the dance studio and one of the mothers there right away comes up to Malia – she thinks she’s out of earshot of me and she says, ‘Sweetie, do you want me to redo your hair?’ And Malia who she’s 4 says, ‘Yes please, this is a disaster’ you know, she didn’t want to hurt daddy’s feelings."
Too funny!

No Daddy Memories, but Hubby Memories

I don't have any daddy/daughter hair stories (my father didn't raise me) but I would always "help" my grandfather, who did raise me, comb his hair.  He never combed mine, LOL! Grandaddy was mostly bald, but had a wee bit of hair on the sides.

He'd come home from work, tired from working as a supervisor on the assembly line at Chrysler, and sit in a chair at the kitchen table. I'd grab his pocket comb from his shirt pocket and begin combing his hair as he nodded off to sleep. I had to have been a very  young child. My grandfather has been gone for almost 14 years now, but it's one of the memories that I cherish.

Now, my husband on the other hand,  has done the girls' hair a few times -- once when my oldest was 1 1/2 and I was having my youngest -- and brushed it down a few other times when the girls' ponytails were a mess and I was out of pocket. All of those times, my girls looked a HAM!

I had just had my youngest, who was born premature, and I took one look at my then toddler's hair and was like, WTH? Yup, he's been "banned" from doing their hair ever since!

What daddy, daughter hair stories can you share? Or,  does your  husband do your daughter's hair? Is he better at styling than you?

Is America Ready for a First Lady with Natural Hair?

Source

Reading one of my favorite natural hair sites -- CurlyNikki.com -- after a day of meetings and my heart skipped a few beats.

I saw THE picture.

I. was. done. The pic was sent to CurlyNikki via Twitter, but it's gone viral in the natural hair community and it's all over Facebook and Pinterest. Hell, it probably was a trending topic on Twitter or all I know (it wasn't by the time I saw it).

The Natural Hair Pic That Shook Twitter
At first, I thought: WTH? Is this real? A closer look revealed it was a Photoshopped image, but the visual?

The image was so good that for a split second, I had to get myself together! Had the First Lady gone natural? She'd be that "curl friend" in my head. I just knew she'd be all up on HairNista.blogspot.com, CurlyNikki.com and BGLHOnline.com, looking for advice to maintain her natural.

Would she do a twist out, wash and go, braid out? What's her regi? Products? Then I thought, "Whose hair is this?!" LOL. A naturally curly friend told me it was NaturalChica's hair. If so, what a compliment to have your hair Photoshopped on the First Lady!

Straight vs. Curly

What If?
Had me imagining for a moment: What if First Lady wore her curly natural hair? Now, let me say that I've always believed that First Lady is a heat trained natural. Plus, I heard her stylist Johnny Wright say on the Steve Harvey Show that FLOTUS has her natural hair flat ironed/pressed -- no chemicals.

But it got me to thinking, what if?

Malia and Sasha have been known to rock twist outs, puffs, braids etc. But what about FLOTUS? What if she ditched the heat?

How cool would that be? A good friend of mine and I have talked about this for months, about how the world would take First Lady Michelle Obama with natural hair. Would her natural hair be accepted or criticized?

HairNistas, you know I'm all about doing you. If you like it, I love it. Michelle Obama looks good no matter how she wears her hair. Her straight bob styles and updos are always FLY -- shiny, full of beauty, body, thick and lush. In a word -- gorgeous!

Yet, I think she would look as equally stunning -- if not more -- wearing her hair naturally curly.

The Reaction
Is America ready for a curly first lady? I don't know, but I hope so.

FLOTUS is one of the most powerful women in the free world. You'd like to think that she could wear her hair curly and not a peep be uttered -- in a perfect world, it would -- but that's not the case. Everything she does, says, wears and doesn't wear -- remember the media hype over her bare arms? -- is talked about, examined and debated.
No matter what she does, FLOTUS gets plenty of hate. Remember that New Yorker magazine cover a few years ago of a gun toting Mrs. Obma wearing an afro? Yeah, she would get some of that reaction, I'm sure. But for the most part, white folks could probably care less.

The problem would like with us -- Black folk.

My question: Are Black folks ready for a curly First Lady?

No doubt, we'd have the biggest problem with it. Trollers on ratchet blogs already dog Sasha and Malia out for their natural hair styles. Do you really think it would get better with FLOTUS?

I can just see it now:

FLOTUS? Damn! Has everyone gone natural?

How is she going to represent with THAT on her head?

NOOOOOOOO!!!!

That is NOT my FIRST LADY!

WHY didn't she wait for second term for this ish? Obama isn't going to elected a second term for real, now.

Calm down, everyone. FLOTUS isn't rocking her curls -- yet.

But we'll be waiting with open arms if and when she does!

What do you think of the image? Would FLOTUS be accepted with her curly hair?

Birthday Wishes To FLOTUS Michelle Obama!

We love how FLOTUS isn't afraid to wear bright colors that show off her amazing arms -- and her brilliant skin tone!

Happy 48th Birthday, First Lady Michelle Obama!

Mrs. Obama represents everything HairNistas stand for ... strength, confidence, beauty, elegance, brains, sexiness, style, femininity and so much more! We love that she is President Obama's "rock."

We admire what FLOTUS represents -- her activism to get children more healthy, her dedication to Malia and Sasha and her love for family.  We are ga ga over her sense of style. And yes, we covet her sculpted arms!

Best birthday wishes, FLOTUS!

We love this modern bob. We hear that she's natural, but no matter the style, FLOTUS rocks it!

Stunning --again!
