Judge tosses out $30 million wig lawsuit against Nicki Minaj by her former hair stylist and wig designer

A federal judge has thrown out a $30 million lawsuit against platinum recording artist Nicki Minaj by her former hairstylist, who claimed the rapper stole his colorful, eccentric wig designs.

In a federal lawsuit filed earlier this year, Terrence Davidson of Georgia had claimed that Maraj, who's government name is Onika Maraj, also broke contracts and reneged on discussions to launch a reality show and wig line.

But U.S. District Judge Harold Murphy ruled Davidson did not have valid claims against Minaj and her company, Pink Personality LLC.

In the lawsuit, David said he began working as Minaj's hair stylist in 2010, creating multiple wigs that Minaj wore to the MTV Awards, during media appearances and music videos. He claimed that he turned down a reality show to work with Minaj and the wig line. He stopped working as her stylist in early 2013 and claimed Mina stole his designs and started her own line.

Minaj's lawyers said Davidson is upset he lost a famous client and sought to take advantage of his former client's fame.

Minaj's flamboyant, brightly-colored wigs were a big part of her image up until recently, as the rapper has begun to tone down her look. Davidson claims he's also worked wig singer Patti Labelle and rapper Remy Ma.

Memphis TV anchor reveals natural hair on air

Natural hair reveals are nice (Nicki Minaj, Toya, Oprah, Angela Simmons and others) but what about "real" people -- with no stylists on call 24/7 and who actually do their own hair every day?

Well, Memphis-area WMCTV anchor Pam McKelvy recently revealed her natural hair on the air, after wearing wigs every day after she lost her hair to chemo treatments following her 2-year battle with breast cancer. McKelvy made the reveal during a segment about women's hair options.

“I made my choice also because I think about the message I send to young women about confidence and self-acceptance,” she said. “The times are changing, and God’s delivered me with a brand-new spirit and a head full of hair, and here it is.”

McKelvy removed her wig — saying she’s “taking it off for good” – and debuted her curly, natural hair.
“A woman’s relationship with her hair is sacred,” she said. “Her hair is her crown of glory. And for women in TV, it’s intensified. I lost my hair after chemo and I’ve been wearing a wig since this past march.”

For sure, it was a "milestone" moment in McKelvy's career and sent a powerful message of self acceptance. McKelvy's natural hair looks great -- so much better than the wig she wore.

“Today I’m taking it off for good," she said. "This is a milestone, blessed experience for me….I want everybody to know that no matter what you go through, it’s not about what’s on the outside, it’s about what’s on the inside. And I feel that on the inside I am more radiant and beautiful than I’ve ever been.”

Amen!

Celeb Natural Hair: Nicki Minaj Reveals her Natural Hair on Instagram

By Tenisha Mercer

In what has become a trend in recent months, yet another celebrity is revealing her natural hair -- this time, it's rapper Nicki Minaj, who revealed a headful of long, thick natural hair on her Instagram, writing, "No perm. No extensions."

Nicki's natural hair

I get that performing is hard on natural hair, but I like the look, much better than those candy-colored wigs and atrocius bleach bottle blond wigs. She's a great example of hair growing with a protective style -- weaves.

Nicki hasn't exactly endeared herself to the natural hair community, with her anti-natural hair comments. Though she has posted pictures of her natural hair on Twitter before, Nicki isn't exaactly  known for her love of natural hair with no-love natural hair rap lyrics such as "nappy-headed hos need a perminator," and "nappy headed hoes but my kitchen good."

Nikki Minaj's Waist-Length Hair

By Tenisha Mercer

Nicki Minaj's hair on Twitter
Though she's known for her pink wigs and brightly colored weaves, Nicki Minaj revealed straight waist-length hair on Twitter last week.

The famous star tweeted: #LongHairDontCare #HangTime #ImaWearItOutWhenItTouchesMyASS =P

Not sure if it's relaxed or natural. And while many on Twitter and social media sites wondered if that's Nicki's hair (I really don't care), it got me to thinking: What kind of hair would we have if we had a professional team of stylists, as I'm sure Nicki does, at our beck and call daily?

The Professional Stylist in my Head

This isn't just about length though that is a consideration) but also about the care of our hair. After all, Nicki does wear weaves/wigs, so her hair is protected and is able to grow and flourish. But just think what we could do if we had a professional stylist tending to our hair.

No more marathon wash/detangling sessions. No  more of my arms being tired of doing my hair. Access to all of the best professional products -- at a discount.  I'd NEVA have a bad hair day, LOL. Because I could get my stylist to hopefully give me the look I'm going for and, if not, start all over again, LOL.

The closest I've seen others get to this is weekly hair appointments. But, that's not like having someone only dedicated to your hair; your appointment is among many the stylist has in a week. But this would be like someone who knows just YOUR hair, and your hair, alone. How epic would that be?

Now, you would have to watch out about heat styling, as I'm sure many celebrities have to be careful of (blow dryers and flat irons can wreck havoc on any type of hair, no matter how professionally maintained) to avoid heat damage.

What would you do if you had daily access to a professional stylist?

Nicki Minaj Reveals Natural Hair On Twitter

By Tenisha Mercer

Nicki Minaj wearing a straight wigs
Nicki Minaj, known for her no-love natural hair rap lyrics such as "nappy-headed hos need a perminator," and "nappy headed hoes but my kitchen good" debuted pictures on Twitter of her natural hair. The picture, with the captions, "no chemicals," and "no perm," show a picture of her stylist holding Minaj's straightened hair.

Is this Nick Minaj's straightened hair?

And I feel what about that? Umm, err, I could care less, but since celebrity hair is some of the highest-rated posts on this blog, I'm writing about it. Some doubt whether her hair is real; maybe it is, maybe it's not. I don't care.

Minaj is one of the latest celebrities who have debuted natural hair in recent months, including Oprah (texlaxed) on the cover of O magazine. Minaj is more known for her colorful, pink wigs and eccentric weaved styles in bright neon colors than her natural hair. But with her lyrics unsupportive of natural hair, this is one so-called natural who I don't care if she is #teamnatural.

What do you think about Nicki Minaj's hair?
