Marsha Ambrosius' Natural Hair at BET Awards

Marsha Ambrosius' natural curls at BET Awards
Weaves were definitely on deck at the BET Awards 2012, but you know us naturals -- there are always at least 1 or 2 in the building, like Marsha Ambrosius' lush head of natural curls (via CurlyNikki.com) from LoveBrownSugarl.com

Loving it! Check out the body! I wonder did she use a barrel curling iron or Curlformers? Hmm..

Carols Daughter Introduces Product For Transitioning Hair

Carol's Daughter Transitioning 1-2-3

Carol's Daughter has unveiled a new product line -- Transitioning 1-2-3 -- that's designed specifically for transitioners, as well as an online forum who want to transition to natural hair. The product bills itself as the "first and only relaxed-to-natural" kit.

This is one of the few products that most hair bloggers, except for those who are transitioning, can't really test or review. However, I think it's a good thing that a major Black hair company is paying attention to this critical market.

Natural hair isn't a blip on the radar screen; it's a major shift in black hair. The sales of relaxers have decreased double digits since 2007. Transitioning isn't rocket science per se, but it is a process that can come with challenges, especially among those who don't want to big chop.

Transitioning is a science in itself -- which products to use, as well as which methods to manage hair. What works on relaxed hair doesn't necessarily work on natural hair. And most transitioners have unique experiences; what's easy for one person may be more challenging for someone else.

And that's where Carol's Daughter comes in.

With the success of sites like CurlyNikki.com, online forums and blogs are a primary way that naturals communicate, share tips and information. Carol's Daughter online forum promises to provide tips for those making the transition from relaxed to natural hair, with videos, first-person stories and blogs from Carol's Daughter founder Lisa Price.

What do you think of products made specifically for transitioners?

Straightening Natural Hair

So hot, had to put that hurr up in a top knot!
After months of wearing my natural hair curly, I got my curls straightened at Juanita's Hair Salon in Alpharetta.

This is the same salon where I take my girls , but it was WAY past time to get my hair straightened. My ends were a mess and needed trimming badly --- plus my hair was tangling and matting up, even from twistouts and braid outs.

My Experience
I'm always a bit apprehensive about letting someone touch my head.

I'd been to this salon about four years ago for a blow out, but the person who I had then was booked the day I went.

I sat down in the chair, hoping -- no praying -- for the best.

The Results
It turned out well. My stylist asked me a few questions, do I normally wear my hair curly (yes) and how long a blowout will last (a good four weeks with no water-based products)?  I warned her I had some damage, and my tender-headed self winced a few times, even though I detangled.

The result? Lost length in the crown and sides -- and a good trim. Next time, I won't wait as long to get my hair professionally straightened and trimmed.

I love how my hair feels, and will be incorporating a blowout every 3-4 months as a treat. I'm missing my curls already.

Do you get Dominican blowouts? What are your results?
