Green Smoothies Fo' Life, Yo!

By Tenisha Mercer

Earlier this year, I began a lifestyle change to eat healthier, inspired in part by a Green Smoothie challenge on Facebook.

I saw the Green Smoothie challenge too late on Facebook to join, but I decided to do my thing, anyway. I got out my Ninja  -- an infomercial product that was gathering dust in my kitchen cabinet --  bought some spinach and frozen fruit, and began blending away using this smoothie recipe.

Healthy Eats: My Green Smoothie Challenge

By Tenisha Mercer

Simple Green Smoothies launched a 30-day smoothie challenge earlier this month and, inspired by their efforts, I'm launching one of my own beginning today, Jan. 14.

I've been smoothieing (is that even a word?) for the past week and I love it. Love isn't strong enough; I'm addicted to it! It has totally cut down on my caffeine cravings (I usually drink a 12-ounce bottle of Pepsi on the weekends (my guilty pleasure). Didn't want one this weekend. It's even decreasing my cravings for sugar (I'm a sugar addict).

And did I mention the health benefits? It's a good way to get my green veggies in, and the smoothies are DELISH! Green smoothies have really transformed my life, and see my green smoothie recipe here.

I'll post about my progress as well as smoothie recipes.

Eating Healthy in 2013

By Tenisha Mercer

So in an effort to eat healthier in 2013, I decided to incorporate more smoothies into my diet.

I've started -- and stopped -- the smoothie kick before. Usually because my smoothies would come out nasty as hell. I bought a Ninja over the summer and didn't touch the thing for at least 3 months. When I did use it to make a smoothie, it came out in chunks -- NOT the business.

I saw the Green Smoothie challenge on Facebook one day an became intrigued: The smoothies at Simple Green Smoothies looked delish. What the hell was I doing wrong? I tried her recipe and let me tell you -- I am in love.
