What to wear for fall: 80s retro

By Tenisha Mercer
www.HairNista.Blogspot.com

Many of the hot items for fall -- big, chunky slouchy knit sweaters, sweater knits, boyfriend jeans, shirts with bow collars and moto jackets -- look like they came straight out of the 80s.

I'm an 80s baby (sorta) who loves this trend, but I'm still scratching my head on some things and I'm thinking: What year is this? All they're missing is the big hair! Wait, we naturals have got that covered.

Here are the top 80s trends. Tip: Don't pay big bucks for these. Instead, hit up your local Goodwill or thrift store.
MUST. GET. MOTO. JACKET. FOR. FALL!

Love this slouchy fit sweater. I'd pair it with boyfriend jeans, not leggings, though.

Love this vintage look.

The Cape Returns: What to Wear for Fall

By Tenisha Mercer

Capes are big this fall -- Source: H&M
Capes made a big splash last year -- and they're back again this fall, stronger than ever.

I didn't snag a cape last year (almost got one at TJ Maxx in the spring) but they're a must have on my shopping list this season. They're sexy, elegant and are the perfect cover up. They're also a great alternative to the trench coat.

They're great when it's chilly outside, yet it's not quite cold enough for a full-blown coat. Dress it up or down: Pair it with a pair of skinnies, leggings and riding boots for a chic, casual look, or glam it up with a pencil skirt. Just remember to pair a cape with a tighter-fitting bottom to balance the proportion of the looser coat on top.

Are capes on your shopping list this year?

What to Wear for Fall: Kirna Zabete for Target

By Tenisha Mercer

I've seen the Kirna Zabete for Target Look 6 collection for a bit now and I've got to say that it's one of the hottest collections at Target this fall.

The  Kirna Zabete line was started by best friends Sarah Easley and Beth Buccini, who have a shop in SoHo, NYC. Target got ahold of the line as part of The Shops at Target -- the retailer's mini boutique venture pairing high fashion designers and limited, hand-picked speciality items at its stores. It definitely ups Target's fashion game --- as if they needed help!

Back to Kirna Zabete. The line features nearly 100 items of bold patterns, prints and designs, as well as accessories.

Many of its designs are graphic prints or are of the uber hot floral variety at a price point of $50 or less.

The line is on sale, presumably for the holidays, so stock up!

What do you think of the Kirna Zabete collection?

What To Wear For Labor Day

It's that time of year where we try to squeeze in the last bits of summer --BBQs, dips in the pool, and wearing the last of our cute summer clothes -- because Labor Day Weekend means it's time for cooler temps and fall fashions.

Here are some cute summer outfits to mark the official "end of summer." These are easily transitionable beyond Labor Day into fall's cooler temps because they incorporate summer items into fall. A few essentials, though, are a must: chambray shirts and blazers to wear with everything from white skinnys and maxi dresses.

Throw on a pair of riding boots when it cools off and you're good to go.

What are you wearing for Labor Day?

What I'm Lovin' For Fall - 3 Fall Fashion Trends

Ever since I was 12 years old flipping through the pages of Vogue and Harper Bazaar magazines, I have LOVED fashion!

I'd keep up with all the big names in fashion, scrawl my little designs in my notebook, and dream about becoming a fashion designer. That didn't exactly happen. But I became a fierce fashionista in real life, shaking down budget stores like TJ Maxx and Marshalls to garage sales, flea markets and resale stores for fashion finds.

So, with that said, ya know that I'm super excited for fall. It's been a long, hot summer in Atlanta, where I live, and I'm looking forward to wearing some long-sleeved fashions and get a break from all of the hot, sweltering 90-degree weather.

If you want to stay uber stylish for fall, here are a few trends to jump on:

Jewel Tones: Add these to your wardrobe, stat! Jewel tones such as jade and teal are one word -- hot, hot, hot! This is an easy add, one that you can quickly and easily add a few things like accessories. I'm a bargain hunter, so this trend is one that you can do affordably. The best thing, is that if you buy staples or accessories in these color schemes, you can still rock them next year or even the next 10 years from now. And, these colors look great against the deep skin tones of girls of color.

Statement Necklaces: This is a trend that's been bubbling up for a while, but statement necklaces are everywhere for fall. The bolder, the better. Really, I can't think of a better way to take classics suchas the LBD or a black turtleneck, and give it a more mod feel.  If you only have money for just one accessory this fall, this one is it.

Animal Print: Animal prints continue their reign. This is a trend that's not really a trend; it's more of a classic: You can rock animal prints today or 10 years from now. Just be sure not to overdo it. Say it with me: One animal print at a time!

Color Blocking: Combining colors of the same hue on the color wheel -- fuschia with blue, blue with green, yellow with blue -- is a return from the summer, and it's trend that can be easily implemented for fall. Think orange and mustard yellow,  orange and brown or even teal and purple.

Leather, Pleather, baby!: It's back -- the leather skirt. I can't think of something that's more iconic. Leather has gotten a definite upgrade in the past 5 years, as fake leathers now look more "real. So, I guess it was only a matter of time before the trend made its way to skirts.  Only this time, the skirts are more A-line cut for a more retro/mod approach. Buy the leather skirts now and keep them. It's a purchase that you'll wear for years -- guaranteed.
