Besides hair and fashion, saving money is my other passion. I like to save money whenever and wherever I can; it's addictive, really, and (almost) nothing makes me happier than a good deal (maybe a good deal on hair productsk, maybe?).
Soo, you know there's no better than when my fave retailer -- Target -- gets in a virtual price war with other retailers. Yesterday, Tarjay announced it would match prices customers find on Amazon.com, Walmart.com, BestBuy.com or ToysRUs.com.
Natural Black hair is the ultimate fashion accessory.

What are you wearing for spring?
![]() |
At work, making it WERK! I swear their bathroom has the BEST lighting in that dark building! |
I've been wearing bursts of color for months -- bright scarves and dresses -- but today is finally the first day of spring.
Add to it that most of the country is basking in super warm temps right now and I pulled out my sleeveless tangerine sheath dress today that I got from Tarjay last season for under $20!
Speaking of tangerine, it's on trend for spring. Tangerine is one of the most popular colors this season, according to the color predictor folks at Panteone. Overall, you'll plenty of bright colors this spring. And, in a nod that's totally retro and reminiscent of the 80s, neons are back. I can't believe it, but I saw aisles full of neon yellow, orange and blue scarves, sneakers and even sandals at Target the other day.
Not sure how I feel about this trend. Been there, done that. Adding a bit of neon flare to your wardrobe isn't a bad thing ... if done the right way. Do it wrong and you'll be looking like a HAM!

Target Scores Another Hit with Jason Wu
Trendy chic retailer Target has scored yet another fashion coup: The recently launched Jason Wu For Target collection has created a shopping frenzy, with fashionistas clamoring online and in stores to get the chains' hottest retail collabo.

They were largely unsuccessful: Much of the Jason Wu collection sold out within the first hour. Angry shoppers deluged Target's Facebook and Twitter pages, frustrated that they couldn't get their hands on Wu's limited edition collection, which ranges from $20 to $60 for women's clothing and accessories.

In Miami, two customers cleaned out a store's collection, overfilling two shopping carts with Wu merchandise. Allegedly, they tried to sell the products for higher prices outside the store, as seen in this YouTube vid:

This isn't the first time Target has had such a high demand for its limited edition collections. In October, the launch of the Mossimo for Target Collection sold out in minutes and crashed Target.com. Target learned from its Missoni missteps and limited purchases to two of the same Jason Wu items on its website. It also did not make Jason Wu available at all stores.
What do you think of the Jason Wu for Target collection? Will you buy it?

Shops At Target
Seriously, can we love Target any more?
Target is launching a mini boutique-type concept with handpicked speciality items, called The Shops at Target.
Source: YouTube
The items will be local, giving small retailers the opportunity to sell their wares at a chic, mass retailer. And, yes, these will be retailers off the beaten path -- outside of NYC and LA. The boutique goods launch in May, both in-store and online (though probably a much smaller selection online).
Among the stores featured will be: The Candy Store in San Francisco, beauty chain Cos Bar, Polka Dog Bakery in Boston, Privet House home decor store in Connecticut, and The Webster clothing store in Miami Beach.
The shops will switch out every six weeks, items offered will be apart of limited collections.
Target is good at what they do, and many other retailers should be taking notes. This only adds to their "what's at Target?" persona. The retailer recently announced that it will sell a limited collection of dresses, scarves and handbags for First Lady Michelle Obama designer Jason Wu in February.
Late last year it famously launched its Mossimo for Target collection. And, in big news but with few details, Target announced it will sell Apple iPhones, iPads and other products as part of a trial offering, rolling out 25 stores at a time. No word on when.
We can only wait to see what's next at Target.
Are you a Target fan? What brand do you want to see there?

London Style

Green Waterfall Jersey Dress, £25, Dorothy Perkins via InStyle.Co.UK |
Maybe it's the fact that their fashions are quirky and different.
Maybe it's the fact that, because it's overseas, that their fashion just speaks to me.
Or, maybe it's the fact that they give the finger to U.S. styles, preferring to beat to their own drum.
It's different enough that I just love it. I luv, luv, luv shops like like Asos, Zara and Topshop.
Sure, there are some designers that we share on both "sides of the pond," but then they've got their own, like House of Holland, for example. I got a chance to catch up with my European fashionistas over the weekend when looking through InStyle's UK edition.
Was amazed by how different, yet how chic, their styles are. For one, they call low-cost, yet stylish brands "high street." Think H&M and Target. And, I was suprised by their trends: They are big on Peter Pan collars. Who knew? And will and how fast will that trend get here, because I'm still having flashbacks from those peter pan collars I wore from 6th-8th grade Catholic school.

Missoni for Target Shuts Target.com Down!
High-end fashion designers' collaboration with department stores is all the rage: Lanvin for H&M, Vera Wang for Kohl's and now (drumroll, please!) the most popular of them all -- Missoni for Target. That's right, Missoni shut down Tar-jay's site for most of yesterday and even part of this morning.
Target shoppers lined up in droves and mobbed Target stores to get their hands on the new Missoni digs - with their trademark, colorful zig zag patterns --- and home decor. The website crashed and the collection? A good chunk of it sold out in mere minutes, yup, minutes.
Usually, this is reserved for Black Fridays, not a Tuesday in mid-September.
We may be in a recession, but HairNistas love a good bargain, especially when it's from a luxury Italian knit designer like Missoni. Really, the 400-piece collection at Target is a steal at $2.99 (stationary), $59.99 for coats and $599.99 for patio furniture.
Normally, Missoni's luxury knit goods fetch $595 to $1,500.
And, if you weren't among the lucky few to get it, you may be out of luck. The collection was available a limited time, until late October. If you do get it, you'll have to cough up the dough: Already, folks have uploaded their Missoni bounty on eBay, asking double the price.
